I am so excited to be able to say….I have my little seeds planted. I am waiting now to catch a glimpse of the first tiny seedling to burst forth with life. I love to sow, plant, and reap. It is something I just have always loved.
I have been waiting to share my step by step process on how I sow my seeds. I have always started my plants indoors or bought plants ready to be put in the ground.
Your seeds!! I chose to use Heirloom seeds this year as I have seen the health benefits to using the Heirloom verses Hybrid. Also I have researched and it has been said that Hybrid seeds usually do not do well for gathering and saving seed at the end of harvest.
Your Soil!! I usually use a decent soil that at least feeds a few months. I also raise rabbits so I have the benefits of having great compost to mix with my soil. If you don’t have compost it’s fine. I suggest maybe a little plant food mixed in so that is last as long as possible. I have used epsom salt before in my soil and it really seemed to help. That is just a tip I picked up along the way.
Your container’s!! I am using your regular biodegradable little seed starter trays. You may also use the the egg cartons that are cardboard type, not the plastic one’s. Along with my tray’s I also buy the cheap aluminum disposable cake pans and sit my tray’s in those. It makes it great for watering.
Plant Lamps!! This is the first year I am trying plant light’s. I will not use these during germination as plants like darkness more to germinate. My husband just picked up a couple of cheap light fixture’s and plant bulbs.
Rubber gloves and scoop for handling your soil. Spray bottle for watering.
That is all you need!!! I have included some photos so that maybe it will all come together.
Make sure your your seeds stay moist! When they sprout give them some light.
